SS A.B. Hammond Areas With Asbestos Exposure

SS A.B. Hammond

The SS A.B. Hammond was a Liberty Ship build for the War Shipping Administration by the California Shipbuilding Corporation of Los Angeles. It was scrapped in 1963 after suffering heavy damage when it ran ashore near Kilyon in the Black Sea.

Cheap to purchase, resistant to heat, water, and chemical corrosion, virtually indestructible, and capable of withstanding the demands of military operations, asbestos was widely used in the marine sector in its processed form. Navy veterans are victims of deceit on the part of the manufacturing companies who sold asbestos to the military despite the well-known health risks. As a result of this negligence, countless Navy veterans are now being diagnosed with lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis, and other related illnesses.

Everyone who served on the SS A.B. Hammond inhaled the asbestos fibers and is at risk for developing lung disease
