The SS Patrick H. Morrissey was a Liberty ship built at J.A. Jones Construction, Brunswick, Georgia, during World War II. The cargo ship was named after Patrick H. Morrissey, a former head of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. The SS Patrick H. Morrissey was laid down on 23 October 1943, under a Maritime Commission contract, and launched on 19 December 1943. Many veterans have been at risk of asbestos exposure in a prevalent number of ways including during construction, repair, renovation or demolition of the thousands of navy vessels containing asbestos. Anyone who has worked onboard the SS Patrick H. Morrissey or has been involved in her repair should be on the alert for signs of asbestos-related diseases and consult a doctor immediately if they experience any associated symptoms.
