Owned by Atlantic Marine, the shipyard located in Mobile, Alabama, was built in 1980 and was also the original corporate location of the company. The Mobile Shipyard specializes in ship conversion, maintenance and repair, and steel fabrication. Regrettably, people who had a job at Mobile Shipyard were exposed to asbestos, as the companies using the mineral went to unimaginable lengths to hide the dangers of asbestos exposure. For this reason, employees were not given protective equipment such as face masks to wear on during work so as to prevent the inhalation and ingestion of toxic fibers. Shipyard workers would come in contact with asbestos in plenty of ways, such as by insulating hot water pipes, boilers, and steam pipes.
