The company is a division of BAE Systems Repair, which is a subsidiary of BAE Systems, Inc. It was established in 2010 and has a shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida at the moment, but used to have another one in Mobile, Alabama. Roughly 800 employees were working at the former shipyard before it was permanently closed. Unfortunately, while the heyday of asbestos is over, shipyard workers may still be at risk of exposure if the company uses old products. When these hazardous products are disturbed, they inevitably release toxic dust into the air, which the employees inhale or ingest. One of the occupational groups that risks being heavily exposed to asbestos is insulators, as they work directly with raw asbestos to make the material for insulation.
