Also known as the U.S. Coast Guard Yard, this shipyard is situated on Curtis Bay in Maryland. It was established in 1899 and is still operational today. Curtis Bay Shipyard is the largest industrial facility in the Department of Homeland Security. However, during the last century, people who were working at this shipyard were heavily exposed to asbestos, as the employer did not provide them with any protective gear against inhaling carcinogenic fibers. This was because asbestos companies went to great lengths to hide the dangers of asbestos exposure. As a result, thousands of people are struggling with awful diseases caused by occupational asbestos exposure today, such as mesothelioma and lung cancer.
