Johnson Shipyard was a shipbuilding and repair site located in Bayou La Batre, a city in Mobile County, Alabama. Anyone who worked at this shipyard could have been exposed to asbestos. The most common asbestos-containing materials used at Johnson Shipyard include pipe covering insulation, boiler, and furnace insulation, gaskets, paint, floor, ceiling, and wall insulation, turbines, and pumps. Many shipyard workers were exposed to asbestos without being aware of the dangers it presented, and it was only afterward that they learned that the mineral can cause a wide array of pulmonary conditions, some of which may prove to be fatal.
